Chattooga Schools Could See 4 Day School Week

Superintendent Jared Hosmer has released a letter addressed to Chattooga families concerning the rise in Covid cases.

Melissa Hise Ad

The letter states:

As you know, the number of COVID-19 cases continues to increase in Northwest Georgia. Out of concern for our Chattooga families we are informing you of our plans should we need to shift to a hybrid school schedule.

If the number of cases in any school reaches 5% of that school’s total enrollment, that school will attend in person classes on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesday will be used as a deep cleaning day.

The duration for hybrid instruction will be based on the COVID-19 data at the time the decision is made. Any additional changes per school or district will be made as needed based on COVID-19 data.

If this hybrid schedule becomes necessary, all school personnel (principals, teachers, secretaries, paraprofessionals, lunchroom staff, bus drivers, etc.) will report to work at the normal time.

Students in grades K-2 will be given written assignments for Wednesday, while students in grades 3-12 will have assignments to be completed in Google Classroom on Wednesday.

All assignments will be graded and recorded based on the individual teacher’s grading policy. Teachers will be available on Wednesdays between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM for students who may require assistance to complete their assignments.

Students may utilize email or Google Classroom to contact their teacher for any necessary assistance.
It is our hope that this provision will be the only change that will need to be made.

Hosmer said the school system will continue to monitor school and community COVID-19 data to determine if further action will be necessary. Announcements regarding a shift to the hybrid schedule will be made on school websites, local media outlets and through the school system’s shout point system.
