Metter Student Among Winners in Congressman Rick Allen’s Art Contest

Congrats to all of the winners!

Congressman Rick W. Allen (R-GA-12) hosted a reception in Augusta, Georgia to recognize the artwork submissions from high school students in Georgia’s 12th district for the 2019 Congressional Art Competition.

Among the top winners was one of Stateboro High School’s very own.

During the reception, Congressman Allen announced and presented awards to this year’s

first place winner, first runner up, second runner up, third runner up, and the “People’s Choice Award” winner. The first place winner’s artwork will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year, and all other winning pieces will hang in the offices of Congressman Rick Allen.

“This year’s competition was a tremendous success with over sixty artwork submissions from high school students throughout the 12th district,” said Congressman Allen. “This special tradition provides a unique opportunity to recognize the artistic talents and abilities of not only young artists in our community, but from communities throughout the nation. Again, I’d like to congratulate our winners and thank all of those who participated in this year’s competition; it’s through your hard work that this is all possible.”

First place: “The Barbershop” by Angie Landaverde from West Laurens High School

Angie’s artwork will hang in the U.S. Capitol for the next year!

First Runner Up: “Fruit Basket” by Austin Halaby from Statesboro High School


Second Runner Up
: “The Corner” by Jayden Payne from West Laurens High School


Third Runner Up
: “Roots” by Lauren Ulrich of Curtis Baptist School


People’s Choice Award
: “Big Georgia Game” by Christian Beggs from Metter High School.
