Head Coach Jared Groce previews the upcoming season, “We are all very excited about this year’s basketball team. There are 24 great young men who have made the cut to be a part of our program at the high school level, including 5 seniors (Travell Bankston, Kam Martin, Dee McCutchins, Taeler Teems and Jadarius Price). These young men have been working hard since they arrived at the high school. It was great to see their hard work translate into success last season, as we finished the regular season with a 17-5 record and tied for 2nd in the region with Coosa. After a heartbreaking loss in the region tournament, these boys were beyond hungry to get back on the court in June when we began our summer workouts. We traveled to Florida State for their team basketball camp and ended up winning all ten games to earn the camp championship. The team we defeated in the championship game won the state championship for AA in Georgia last year. These three days of camp were just part of our offseason program in June. We worked hard for the entire month and focused on strengthening our weaknesses. Although we did not lose any starters from a year ago, we did lose some key role players that will be missed. In addition to having a much more difficult schedule this coming season, we know that we will be receiving every team’s best shot due to our success from a season ago. With the excitement throughout the community about this year’s team and our new state-of-the-art gym, these boys are facing a little more pressure than they had to face coming into last season. This team is special. I think we are ready for the challenge.”
