Gore Fire Department Continues to Lead the Pack

The Gore Volunteer Fire Department is still one of the highest rated fire teams in the northwest Georgia region. The department recently recognized two officers with promotions. Sargent Nick Hawkins was promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant. Corporal Kyle Ashley was promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant.
The Gore Fire Department handles their promotion process unlike most departments in the region. The process is based on promotion processes from larger municipality departments and strays well away from the typical volunteer department programs of nepotism and popularity. Consistent training and demonstration of skills over a a six month process of testing, training, skill set development and certifications leads to select promotions to only the most deserving members.

In the 1st quarter of 2016, Chief Dawson’s Gore Fire Department has logged over 345 hours of in-house training. These training hours do not include the time spent responding to actual calls, community service in the county,  and time spent working around the station. Gore also added Squad-31, a 1997 Peterbilt walk-in rescue/command truck. Complete with a 6,000 psi cascade system and two bottle fill stations, the truck has a 25 KW PTO generator and 25 ft. Wilbert light tower. With only 12,000 original miles, the truck will have an immediate impact on Gore’s ability to respond and meet the needs of the community on a much higher level.
