Brunswick sets record in November

Rates fell across all 11 of Georgia’s 14 MSAs. Eleven set or tied a record for lowest rate ever.

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Brunswick set a record for an all-time low unemployment rate in November.

Brunswick, according to preliminary numbers, posted annual gains in jobs, and employed residents for the three-county metropolitan statistical area (MSA).

“This November we had great job numbers across the board,” Butler said. “The state had an all-time low unemployment rate and many of our local communities set records too. Overall, it was quite a spectacular month when it comes to the jobs report.”

Nationally, the unemployment rate fell in November to 2.6 percent, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points. The nation also grew its labor force by 40,000, increased employment by 83,000 and added more 266,000 jobs

Georgia’s unemployment rate, meanwhile, fell in November by 0.1 percentage points to 3.3 percent. That rate is the lowest since the federal government began keeping records in 1976.

Brunswick’s unemployment rate decreased in November by 0.5 percentage points to reach an all-time record of 2.6 percent. A year ago, the rate was 3.3 percent.

Brunswick ended November with 45,900 jobs. That’s an increase of about 200 from last month’s total and up 800 from the job total as of a year ago.

The labor force decreased in November by 79 to reach 53,524. That number is up by 94 from the total of last year.

Brunswick ended November with 52,108 employed residents.  The number increased by 143 in November and was up by 462 as compared to November 2018’s total.

The number of unemployment claims went up in November by about 1 percent but were down by about 23 percent from the same period last year.

The three-county MSA includes Brantley, Glynn and McIntosh counties.
