High school athletics continue to play a critical role in the growth of young athletes, yet high school athletic programs across the country continue to suffer deep budget cuts, leaving many students powerless.
For the third year, POWERADE will give students the power to make an impact. As the sports drink of The Coca-Cola Company, POWERADE understands the importance of sports in the lives of teens. This notion became the catalyst in the development of “Power Your School’ program.
Student athletes and their supporters submitted videos and essays demonstrating their schools’ needs. Nearly 45 winning schools will receive monetary prizes of $2,000 each to preserve the playing fields that often serve as an extension of the classroom.
“POWERADE is committed to empowering the next generation of athletes,” said Jasmine Lipford, senior brand manager, POWERADE. “As a former athlete myself, I understand firsthand the positive impact sports can play in the lives of high school athletes which is why Power Your School program is an initiative that POWERADE is excited to support.”
Contest entries were judged based on school need, creativity, and quality of submission.
Statesboro High School won $2,000.00 to fund various athletic programs.
