The past week has been busy for the Statesboro Police Department, which made three aggravated assault arrests in six days time.
Wednesday May 13
Statesboro police responded to reports of shots fired in the Little Lotts Creek Apartments on East Jones Avenue in Statesboro on May 15. Upon arrival, officers observed multiple shell casings in the parking lot and damage to vehicles from gunfire. No one was injured in the exchange of gunfire, but detectives processed the scene and were able to identify two participants in the shooting incident.
Shakiel Marlin (25, Statesboro) was arrested later on May 13 and charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of stalking. Jamorian Bellamy (24, Reidsville) was taken into custody in Tattnall County with the assistance of the county Sheriff’s Office and returned to the Bulloch County Jail. He, too, is charged with Aggravated Assault.
The Statesboro Police Department echoed that exchanges of gunfire will investigate, arrest, and prosecute to the fullest any individuals who choose to resolve disputes with gunfire.
Monday, May 18
Statesboro police officers responded to the Super 8 Motel on South Main Street on May 18th for a report of a male subject struck by a vehicle in the parking lot. Upon arrival, officers located the male with a leg injury. According to the press release, them ale indicated that his former girlfriend, Lydia Royals (21, Statesboro), had intentionally driver her car into his truck, pinning his leg between the two. Due to the appearance of an intentional assault, detectives were requested and a criminal investigation began.
After reviewing camera footage and the vehicles, Royals was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault (FV) and Criminal Damage to Property (2nd degree). She remains at the Bulloch County Jail, pending further judicial action.
