Some of Chattooga County’s roughest roads will be smoothed out this year according to Sole Commissioner Blake Elsberry.
Since taking office, Commissioner Elsberry has spent a large amount of time riding the roads in Chattooga County.
Elsberry received a repaving and striping list from the previous administration which had been tentatively approved on December 18, 2020.
So far Elsberry has removed 3.6 miles of Oak Hill Alpine Road from the list. The project was estimated to cost the County $249,976.oo, it was the most expensive project on the proposed list. “The previous administration had made the list so what I did was I rode all the roads on the list and visibly put eyes on them, all of the roads were pretty bad except Oak Hill Alpine. We moved that onto a later a date,” Elsberry said.
With the money saved from the Oak Hill Alpine project Elsberry added 2.2 miles of Little Sand Mountain Road, the section from North Little Sand Mountain to Haywood Valley Road to the list for a cost of $140,001.00.
Commissioner Elsberry said all road work would be rebid. He expects the paving to begin around the middle of March or first of April and be completed by October 1.
