City of Statesboro Transit Projected to Begin This July

The City of Statesboro and the Coastal Regional Commission (CRC) have partnered together to provide a transit service for the citizens of Statesboro. Operations are projected to begin July of this year.

From City of Statesboro:

The CRC is the designated sub-recipient of Federal Transit Administration funding and will include the City of Statesboro as part of their implementation plan. In which, the City will have its own Cost Center for transit system service to its citizens.

The City is requesting funding from the Georgia Legislature and expects to receive notice of approval by April or May of 2020. The city is projecting to begin operations in July 2021. As currently proposed, Statesboro’s city system would be operated on two, mostly fixed routes (see map) travelling east-west and north-south.

However, the system is also considered a “flex service” because it would provide a pick-up option away from the usual stops with 24-hour notice. The system will have a downtown transfer station to access either route if change in direction is needed. See Map Link Below

The Baseline Service will be Monday – Friday 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM with a $1.00 proposed fare. In addition, there will be a 24 hr. advance notice pick up option.
