DHS: Georgians Provide Gifts for Over 8,500 Children in Foster Care

The Georgia Department of Human Services, Division of Family & Children Services (DHS) Clark’s Christmas Kids program – held in partnership with Clark Howard, Cox Media Group Atlanta’s News 95.5 and AM750 WSB (WSB-AM/WSBB-FM) and St. Vincent de Paul Georgia – annually provides gifts for children in foster care based on their personalized wish lists. On Friday, Dec. 10, DHS exceeded this year’s goal to provide gifts for more than 8,500 children.

DHS, along with its partners, received an overwhelming response from Georgians in the past week alone, making this year’s virtual drive one of the largest collections of gifts in the program’s 31-year history with a total of over $1.5 million in purchased gifts and monetary donations.

“All of us at DHS are so grateful for Clark Howard, WSB Radio and St. Vincent de Paul for their continued support of our children in foster care,” said Commissioner Candice L. Broce. “We also want to thank Governor and First Lady Kemp, Georgia’s state agencies and all our fellow Georgians for their support. Your donations help to ensure these children have a special, memorable Christmas and a promising future.”

Howard, the host of the WSB-AM/WSBB-FM’s Clark Howard Show, and Drew Anderssen, 95.5 WSB Director of Branding & Programming, were also impressed by this year’s effort.

“I am so grateful to our incredibly generous listeners who, for 31 years in a row, have made it happen for children in foster care in Georgia. This year, our listeners made sure that 8,500 children got the gifts they wanted for Christmas. Over 31 years, we have served over 250,000 children,” said Clark Howard.

“Supporting the needs of our community is at the heart of everything we do at 95.5 WSB. I’m so proud of Clark Howard and our entire on-air team who gave up their ‘regular shows’ to share a major community need and compelled our listeners to take action. And I’m thankful for the generosity of our audience and the love they have for our WSB team and our fellow Georgians,” said Drew Anderssen.
