City of Statesboro Now Accepting Applications for Newly Established Statesboro Business Commission

The City of Statesboro announced today that it has begun accepting applications for the newly established Statesboro Business Commission.

According to the City, the commission will consist of seven members who own or operate a business within the City of Statesboro and will serve as a sounding board for local entrepreneurs to identify opportunities for business development and growth within the city. The commission shall have the authority to prepare studies and reports for the purpose of informing the governing body on policy matters related to the impact of local ordinances and procedures on business opportunities and operations within the municipal limits of the City of Statesboro.

The deadline to apply to be considered for an appointment is Friday, December 16, 2022, at 5:00 pm.

Completed applications should be submitted to the office of the City Clerk by fax at 912-764-8258 or by email to leah.harden@statesboroga.gov.

Statesboro City Councilmember Venus Mack, who operates a business within the city limits, proposed the idea of creating a business commission to members of the Statesboro City Council earlier this year.

“Most local business owners only interact with City Hall one to two times a year when renewing their business license or paying property taxes,” says Mack. “The goal of this commission is to bring local business owners together and learn from their first-hand experiences what it’s like to do business in Statesboro. It is my desire for Statesboro to be a place where people want to start their business or expand an existing business. Creating an open and welcoming environment where business owners feel they have a voice is essential to future business growth in Statesboro.”
