Possumbilites, a local wildlife rehabilitation facility located in Walker County, has grown and expanded over the past year. This facility serves non-rabies vector small mammals – squirrels, opossums, chipmunks, rabbits, groundhogs, beavers – that are injured, sick or orphaned. The facility served 273 animals last year. Currently, the facility has over 65 animals in care, all under the care of the owner, Kristy Colbert. With all the growth, donations and volunteers are much needed items at this time. Donations of food (vegetables, fruits and proteins), fleece blankets, Goat’s milk Esbilac formula and dog food are greatly appreciated. Monetary donations can also be made through Venmo and Patreon, information is listed on their website and Facebook page, which also includes their Amazon wishlist.

Volunteers are needed for the three shifts throughout the day. There are shifts in the morning, mid-day and evening hours. Volunteering is flexible – you can volunteer whenever you have the time without having a set schedule or required amount of time per month. There are projects on the weekends too, like repairing cages, prepping food and cleaning. Possumbilities will be hosting a volunteer training day on Earth Day, April 22 at 5:00 pm. At this training, you will receive a tour of the facility, an orientation about the facility and what they do and information on daily duties. What better way to spend Earth Day than learning about helping the animals that our lives impact each day.
