Downtown Summerville Pollinator Census

Chattooga County Extension and Summerville Main Street are excited to host a Pollinator Census Event by partnering withHistoric Downtown Businesses to bring the community out to count Pollinators. This free public event is scheduled for Saturday, August 19th, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. – 2:00p.m. The objective of this project is to count pollinators and go into designated Historic Downtown Businesses to complete a Pollinator Passport.

How Does the Pollinator Census Work?

Event participants will begin their journey through Downtown at Willow Spring Park, located at 48 W First Avenue beginning at 10:00 a.m. To join the fun, event goers will simply check-in at Willow Springs Park to pick up their Pollinator Passports and make their way to participating businesses Downtown.Participants will also check for Pollinators as they walk through downtown and tally them up inside their passport. There is no purchase necessary to participate. Upon entering the business, all event participants will have the sales clerk/cashier stamp their passport. Each participant will receive a piece of candy at each participating business compliments of Chattooga County Extension. Upon completion of the Pollinator Passport, event participants will turn in their passport at Willow Springs Park, where the event began.

First, Second, and Third Place Drawings

Completed passports will be entered for a First, Second, and Third Place Drawing to be held at 2:00 PM. First Place will win a Perennial plant, miracle grow, and a golden shovel used in the groundbreaking ceremony for Friendship Park. Second Place will win a variety of local honey products and a large pack of wildflower seeds. Third Place will win a Bat House and a large pack of wildflower seeds. Event participants do not need to be present to win. Honey products were donated by Shinbone Valley Bee Company. Fertilizer, golden shovel, and bat house provided by Summerville Main Street. Wildflower packs and perennial plant provided by Chattooga County Extension.
