Trion Wrestling Secures 4th Place in GHSA State Duals

Trion’s fourth-place finish highlights their skill and dedication in this year’s GHSA state duals, marking the program’s 10th consecutive top 4 state dual finishes.

One thing is sure: never count Trion out in high school wrestling. The program has earned statewide respect during Coach Eric Brock’s tenure. Every year rosters change, but the expectations stay the same.

Trion’s wrestling program stood out as the sole representative from the area to secure a placement at this year’s GHSA state duals, finishing fourth in Class A at Heard County. Despite a strong start in the initial rounds, the Bulldogs faced a challenging semifinal against Mount Pisgah, ultimately losing 42-39 after a closely contested match.

Trion showcased resilience by defeating Heard County 45-33 in the consolation semifinals but fell short against Commerce in the third-place match with a score of 58-17. Despite the ups and downs, Trion’s fourth-place finish highlights their skill and dedication in this year’s GHSA state duals, marking the program’s 10th consecutive top 4 state dual finishes.

“This group has a lot of young faces in the lineup, but they know how to battle,” Brock said. “There were some positives this weekend and some things that we can work on to improve for traditional.”

“I am so very proud of this team,” Brock said. “I think a few people counted us out after losing so many over the last two years.”

Coach Brock claimed his 400th win as head coach during the GHSA state duals. “The best thing about the wins is that I have been blessed with many years of great memories and lifelong friends,” Brock said about the milestone.

Looking ahead, Trion Wrestling shifts its focus to the traditional part of the season, where the team will strive for individual state championships in their respective weight classes. As they pursue both individual and team success, Trion remains a force to be reckoned with in high school wrestling.
