Community Comes Together to Support Family Affected by House Fire

Chattooga County is rallying together to support Sara Treadaway Mejia and her children, who tragically lost everything in a devastating house fire. The fire occurred on Plum Street in Trion early in the morning.

Trion Fire Department’s Engine 12R, alongside Station 11 and Station 4, swiftly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters found a fully engulfed structure and flames spreading to nearby properties.

Despite the efforts of responders from multiple agencies, including Trion, Hays, Teloga, and Summerville Fire, the family’s beloved pets could not be rescued from the fire.

Thankfully, no individuals were harmed during the fire, as the home was unoccupied. However, the aftermath has left Sara Treadaway Mejia and her children in utter devastation, having lost all their possessions.

In a heartwarming display of solidarity, the community is coming together to support the Mejia family during this challenging time. Drop-off locations have been established at 156 Silver Circle in Summerville and Chattooga High School for those wishing to donate essential items.

The family’s immediate needs include clothing for Sara and her children, with specific sizes listed below:

  • Sophia: Medium/large shirts and jackets, large sweatpants
  • Sara: Small sweatpants or scrubs, medium shirts and hoodies
  • Nick: Adult small shirts, small to medium jackets
  • Jonathan: Adult small shirts, small to medium jackets

Pant sizes will be updated once available.

In addition to clothing donations, financial contributions can be made directly to Sara Treadaway Mejia’s Cash App account: $MejiaMom88.

The generosity and compassion shown by the community in times of crisis exemplify Chattooga County’s true spirit. As the Mejia family navigates the difficult road ahead, the outpouring of support is a beacon of hope and resilience.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Sara Treadaway Mejia and her children during this challenging time. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in need.
