Statesboro Police Dept Investigating Another Shooting Incident at Vault Apartments, Three Arrested

UPDATE from SPD 05/08/2024:

2024- 02106, 4/28/24, The Vault Apartments (1699 States boro Place Circle) 20 year old shot by stray round during exchange of gunfire by parties outside his building. He survived his injuries. Detectives believe the shots fired stemmed from a personal dispute between two groups. This incident is not related to the previous Vault shooting. The following individuals have been arrested in connection with the case:

  • Ar’quise Newton (18, Lanier Drive, Statesboro): False Statements and Writings
  • Shamarge Brown (18, Sylvania): Aggravated Assault
  • Aurico Delauder (19, Oak Hill MHP, Statesboro): Aggravated Assault

Investigation continues into this case and additional arrests are possible. Brown and Delauder remain in the Bulloch County Jail. Case Detective: Senior Detective Dustin Cross

Statesboro Police Department detectives are investigating another shooting incident at The Vault Apartments, located at Statesboro Place Circle. Just after midnight, officers in the area heard gunshots and Flock detectors registered the location. Officers discovered shell casings and damaged vehicles in the parking lot and in the common area of 3 Building, as well as damage to an apartment window. A 20 year old male with a gunshot wound was found inside the apartment, taken to EGRMC for treatment, and later released. Residents of the building provided information that led officers to a third floor apartment. Occupants of that apartment were interviewed and two firearms were located. SPD says that the victim was an innocent third party after gunfire exchange resulted in a bullet entering his apartment and striking him. Three individuals were arrested and charged in connection to the case. Shamarge Brown and Aurico Delauder are charged with aggravated assault and Ar’Quise Newton with false statements and writing.

From SPD:

On 4/28/24 at 12:21 a.m. SPD officers located in the area of Statesboro Place Circle heard multiple gunshots. Flock acoustic gunshot detectors also registered the discharges as coming from The Vault Apartments at 1699 Statesboro Place Circle. Officers searching the area discovered shell casings and damaged vehicles in the parking lot and in the common areas of the 3 Building. Noting damage to an apartment’s window, officers discovered a 20 year old male inside suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. He was taken to East Georgia Regional Medical Center and treated, being released after several hours of care.

Information provided by residents of the 3 Building led officers to a third floor apartment in that building. Detectives issued a search warrant for that location and Patrol officers secured all of the occupants, who were transported to SPD for interviews. Detectives located two firearms inside of the residence.

After multiple interviews and the processing of the crime scene and apartment, detectives determined that the victim was an innocent third party. An exchange of gunfire between two groups at the 3 Building resulted in a bullet entering the victim’s apartment and striking him. At this time detectives have charged three individuals in connection with the case:
1. Shamarge Brown (18, Sylvania, Ga) charged with Aggravated Assault
2. Aurico Delauder (19, Oak Hill MHP, Statesboro) charged with Aggravated Assault
3. Ar’Quise Newton (18, Lanier Drive, Statesboro) charged with False Statements
and Writings
