Flock Reader Aids in Atlanta Arrest of Two Car Theft Suspects from Statesboro

Two 17-year-olds from Statesboro were arrested after a Flock tag reader in Atlanta generated hits on a vehicle that was stolen from Statesboro. Several hours before the arrests, Statesboro Police Department officers responded to entering auto reports at three apartment complexes on Fair Road and Lanier Drive, as well as a stolen vehicle at one location. Atlanta Police located the vehicle, recovered the stolen items from the entering autos reports, and arrested Demial Tribble and Jermaine Saunders. Both will be returned to Bulloch County and charged with Theft by Taking Motor Vehicle and multiple counts of Entering Auto.

From SPD:

On 8/2/24 SPD officers responded to three separate apartment complexes on Fair Road and Lanier Drive for reports of entering autos which had been committed overnight. Additionally, a vehicle had been stolen from one of the complexes. That vehicle was entered into NCIC as stolen.

The Flock tag reader system, installed in Statesboro in 2023, runs tags to determine whether or not the vehicle is entered as stolen. The car stolen from Statesboro began generating Flock hits in Atlanta several hours after being taken. Atlanta Police were able to locate the stolen vehicle and take two men from Statesboro into custody. Items stolen from the reported entering autos were also recovered. Demial Tribble (17, Clito Rd, Statesboro) and Jermaine Saunders (17, Chandler Rd, Statesboro) were arrested and transported to the Fulton County Jail. Both will be returned to Bulloch County and charged with Theft by Taking Motor Vehicle and multiple counts of Entering Auto.

Both systems have been used on a daily basis to prevent and solve other crimes as well.
