Chattooga’s Road to the Dome

With Chattooga High School’s epic Friday night win over Washington County, the Indians move into the GHSA Class AA quarter-finals round of the 2016 playoff bracket. For those who aren’t familiar with a playoff bracket, this means only eight teams remain. A win against your opponent next Friday night (for Chattooga, this will be Hapeville Charter School) and your team advances to the Semi-finals. Two teams face off on the left side of the bracket and two teams face off on the right side. The winners of those games face off in the State Championship in the Georgia Dome.

The bracket can be divided into fourths. Chattooga ended up seeded 4th overall in the bottom right section. In last night’s action, both the number 1 and number 2 teams were knocked off in this bracket section. In the remaining three sections, all Number 1 seeds remain: Benedictine (bottom left) Callaway (top left) and the number 1 ranked team overall, Fitzgerald (top right).
What does this means for Chattooga? It means a very long hard road remains ahead. Two games left to reach the dome. Three games to win a State Title.
Opponent 1: Hapeville Charter School.
Hapeville is currently 9-3 and just battled it out with Jefferson County 14-6  in a contest where both offenses failed to score in the second half. Hapeville’s schedule can be seen here.

Looking ahead is something no coach likes to do, but for fans, it’s just what they do. In the other brackets, the number 1 seeds are all heavy favorites.

Opponent #2: A Chattooga win will likely place them traveling to Fitzgerald, Georgia to face the AA #1 ranked Fitzgerald Purple Hurricanes. The ‘Canes just took down Rockmart 48-21 in a game that wasn’t even that close. This is Chattooga’s path to the dome.
On the other side of the bracket, Benedictine will need to make it through the Region 7AA Champs, Pepperell Dragons, in order to face off against Callaway, the heavy favorite over Screvin County.

The Indians have outscored their opponents 82-21 in the opening rounds of the playoffs. A dynamic mixture of quarterback keepers, a deep backfield, and a short passing game have kept opposing defenses baffled. Six different players carried the ball last night and CJ Martin and Isaiah Curtis both had key receptions. The emergence of CJ Martin’s kicking game has been a deadly weapon in all phases of Special Teams for the Indians.

Hapeville Charter School is located in the metro Atlanta area. Friday night’s game November 25th, will begin at 7:30 pm.
This game will be played on Black Friday. In Atlanta. There may be a few cars on the road. Plan for traffic accordingly as the one and a half hour drive may prove to be slightly longer.

Hapeville Charter Career Academy is a public charter school in the inner city area of Atlanta known as College Park. Students wear uniforms and study civil engineering and other career paths. One of 19 schools in Fulton County, Hapeville has an enrollment of 689 students from a district with over 28,000 students. This makes the student body of Fulton County larger than the population of Chattooga County. Hapeville Charter opened four years ago and has already produced five players with SEC offers including Senior cornerback, William Poole III, committed to UGA.
