Statesboro to Sign Mutual Aid Agreement with Savannah PD

The Statesboro City Council voted Tuesday to approve a mutual aid agreement with the City of Savannah Police Department.

The unanimous vote will allow Mayor Jonathan McCollar to sign a mutual aid agreement with the Savannah Police Department for “future (unscheduled) emergency assistance needs between the Statesboro Police Department and the Savannah Police Department.”

A memo provided in the Council Packet indicates that the Savannah Police Department is requesting the agreements with varying agencies in the region following the dissolution of the Savannah-Chatham consolidated police department. The agreement is a two-way agreement and allows Savannah officers to respond to calls for assistance by Statesboro PD as well.

Officers will carry their full police authority and qualified immunity to another jurisdiction.

There is no budget impact.
