Career High Scoring in Critical Game

Due to ongoing construction at Coosa High School, the epic region match up between the Eagles and Indians of Chattooga was hosted at Georgia Highlands College and the game lived up to the hype. Carrying a number 2 state ranking into the game, the Indians put their 15-1 record to the test against a strong and highly competitive Coosa squad in a rivalry where passion often overrides records.

The Indians were led by the career scoring night of Isaiah Foster #2, when the Indians needed every point they could get. Draining three 3-pointers and going 12 of 13 from the free throw line, Foster added five baskets from inside the paint to score a career high, 31 points and help the Indians pull out a 70-68 overtime victory.

“I felt like my team needed me…” said Foster. “We have a couple of guys who could score that much on any given night, but it just so happened to be my night.” Foster’s career night on the hard court goes well with his recent report card where he carries a 3.8 GPA and is currently being recruited in both football and basketball.

Head Coach, Jared Groce, said that he knew, “…going into the game that it was going to be dog fight and that it would be the most physical game we’ve played all season.” Groce added that he was “…proud of the boys for staying focused and playing through some very tough calls.” While region road game victories are hard to come by, Groce knew that it is “…even more difficult to win a game in overtime on the road. Securing the win was a complete team effort, but I certainly want to congratulate Isaiah Foster for scoring a career-high 31 points.”

The Indians face more challenges next week in games with Darlington, Tuesday night, and Model (Senior Night), on Friday January 15th. The Model game will feature increased attention from state sports media as it allows the Indians to avenge their sole loss on the year.

The Indians 16-1 record has enthralled the community of Summerville, GA and CHS Principal, Jeff Martin remarked that he was proud of the entire team and coaching staff. Martin claimed that he is not surprised by the record and that the team embodies the essence of the community, “…hard work, dedication, desire, and heart make a Chattooga Indian.”

Martin included that he is proud “…of the boys both on and off the court.” Judging from the increased attendance at home games and the signs being displayed around the city, it seems apparent that the entire community shares those sentiments. Next week will go a long way to showing just how focused and dedicated the Indians are at turning the epic start into and fairy tale ending.
