Rome native, and former Calhoun High School standout Charlie Culberson has made the 25-man roster for the L.A. Dodgers, putting him in elite company among professional baseball players coming out of spring training.

Culberson, now 26, is currently listed at the third base position for the Dodgers.

Culberson graduated from Calhoun High School in 2007.  Selected by the San Francisco Giants, he was the 51st overall pick in the 2007 MLB draft. Charlie went on to win South Atlantic League in ’08 with Augusta. In 2010 he was named the team MVP with the San Jose Giants and named the Arizona Fall League Allstar. In 2011, Culberson was a AA Eastern League Allstar, and in 2012 he was voted the best second baseman in AAA Pacific League. These accomplishments elevated him to the Big Show and Charlie had his Major League debut on May 13, 2012 Mothers Day.

Culberson’s Dad, Charles, a local baseball legend, said, “To see the commitment, the hard work , sacrifices, … without the complaining… to go after his dream and to see that dream fulfilled, is amazing. I couldn’t be more proud to watch him live it.”
