Like last year’s event, there will be a Virtual Community Walk, but there will also be a second event on the same day at SHS’s Womack Field, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. At the field will be a Community Informational Expo with vendors and an in-person walk.

Registration is $20 and includes a tshirt, coupons, and more. The registration fee is for one or both events.

From the SHS Tulip Trot Virtual Fun Run event page:

Join SHS National Honor Society on Saturday, April 30th from 9:00-12:00 at Statesboro High School’s Womack Field for the 2nd Annual Tulip Trot, a fundraiser for Parkinson’s Disease awareness! We will have vendors with information, activities, music, and a chance to walk the track to honor those affected by Parkinson’s Disease. This event was created to raise money for the Parkinson’s Foundation, and through some phone calls and emails, we are an official Parkinson’s Foundation Moving Day Walk Event for this region (the closest walks to this area were Atlanta, Jacksonville, and Charleston). We are super excited to be a part of this organization and hope to exceed our total raised last year, with a goal of $10,000 to bring awareness for research, in hopes of one day finding a cure!

If you are unable to attend, you can still help out by participating in a virtual walk. With no set time or mandatory distance, this is a great opportunity to raise awareness wherever you are!

According to the Parkinson’s Foundation website, Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects predominately dopamine-producing (“dopaminergic”) neurons in a specific area of the brain called substantia nigra. It is a progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement. Approximately 60,000 Americans are diagnosed with PD each year, and more than 10 million people worldwide are living with PD. There are over 20,000 people with PD in Georgia.
