46-year-old Senior Deputy Noel Brown of the Bulloch Sheriff’s Office announced his candidacy Thursday. Brown, a Portal native, has served with the BCSO for the last eighteen years and currently oversees the Civil and Warrants Division of Court Services. Brown also worked with the Georgia Southern University Police Department in the 1990’s.

Brown is an Air Force veteran and server in Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

In a press release, Brown said of Anderson and the Office,

He will be missed. He will have served Bulloch County as sheriff for sixteen years, but now we must move forward with the changing times. Bulloch County has become a destination location for people looking for a friendly small town atmosphere. The population has grown to about 78,000 people in a very short time. The Sheriffs ’Office must constantly grow and update to meet new challenges. It is the duty of the sheriffs’ office to protect and serve the citizens of Bulloch County. It is the responsibility of the sheriff to set the tone to accomplish this. All citizens deserve respect and need information concerning their situation. I believe it is better to inform than incarcerate. Anyone that is incarcerated needs to be able to move through the justice system in a timely manner. The men and women who work within the sheriffs’ office also deserve respect, recognition, and reward for the difficulties they face on a daily basis. I will mandate this attitude in the services of the office. As a senior deputy I have made it my personal policy to be accessible. As Sheriff I will continue to be accessible. I will neither falter nor waiver in the course of my duties as your sheriff.”

The election is set for May 24, 2016. The deadline to register to vote in that election is April 26.

Noel Brown has set up a campaign Facebook page.
