EGRMC Improves Hospital Safety Grade from C to B

Stateboro’s East Georgia Regional Medical Center saw improvements on its Spring report card, bringing the letter grade up from a ‘C’ to a ‘B.’

The healthcare report card is produced twice a year by The Leapfrog Group, an independent, national not-for-profit organization founded more than a decade ago by the nation’s leading employers and private health care experts. The Leapfrog Group advocates for public access to quality and safety data from all U.S. hospitals.

EGRMC yielded ‘below average’ scors on:

• collapsed lung prevention following surgery
• dangerous blood clot prevention following surgery
• accidental tears and cuts following surgery
• preventing errors with doctors orders for prescriptions
• staff working together to prevent errors
• tracking and preventing risks to patients
• effective leadership to prevent errors
• specially-trained doctors for ICU patients
• communication with nurses
• responsiveness of staff

EGRMC was ‘average’ on practices relating to:

• communications about medicines
• prevention of patient falls

EGRMC yielded ‘above average’ scores on:

• MRSA infection prevention
• C diff infection prevention
• Blood infection prevention
• Urinary tract infections
• Surgical site infection prevention
• Prevention of dangerous parts left in body during surgery
• prevention of serious breathing problems during surgery
• safe medication administration
• handwashing practices
• communication about discharge
• prevention of dangerous bed sores
• enough qualified nurses
• communication with doctors
