SPD Investigating After 2 Shot Over Weekend

The Statesboro Police Department is investigating after two individuals were shot over the weekend.

SPD says patrol officers were at The Vault Apartments on Statesboro Place Circle in the early morning hours of September 26 attempting to disperse a large gathering in the parking lot. At approximately 1:39 a.m., officers heard multiple gunshots fired and discovered a 19-year-old female and a 20-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were rushed to East Georgia Regional Medical Center where they were treated for their injuries. Both were later released, according to the Statesboro PD, and the agency says neither victim was a current student at Georgia Southern University nor do they reside in Statesboro.

Detectives and patrol officers secured the crime scene and discovered multiple shell casings in the parking lot and the investigation is ongoing. At this time the motivation for the shooting is unclear, and detectives are requesting anyone with cellphone video of the incident to turn it over to police.
