Last night, SPD and Georgia Southern University Police Department officers responded to a call for an armed robbery at Renaissance Apartments on Chandler Road. Officers were given descriptions of the three suspects.

As two GSU officers located the suspects at Chandler Heights Apartments, the suspects fled on foot. During the pursuit, one of the suspects fired a shot from a handgun at one of the officers before fleeing into a wooded area behind apartment complexes. Neither of the officers sustained injuries. The gunshot damaged an unoccupied vehicle that was parked.

SPD, along with Georgia State Patrol, Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office, and GSU PD, set up a perimeter in the area. The SPD Emergency Response Team, the Statesboro Bulloch Crime Suppression Team, and BCSO K9 unit assisted in the search. After an extensive search, two of the three suspects were taken into custody without incident.

23 year-old James Edward Prescott has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, criminal damage to property in the 2nd degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

23 year-old Troy Kawame Randall has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, criminal damage to property in the 2nd degree, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Detective Tommy Brown with the Criminal Investigations Bureau is still investigating the case, and no further information is being released at this time.
