Statesboro Police Dept Investigating Child’s Death From Gun Shot Wound At The Hamptons

Statesboro Police Department detectives are investigating the death a four-year-old child. The incident occurred Thursday at The Hamptons. The child suffered a gun shot wound and passed away at EGRMC. SPD says evidence suggests that the child was able to access an unsecured firearm and discharge it, fatally injuring himself. The investigation is ongoing.

From SPD:

On 5/29/25 at 5:46 p.m. SPD patrol officers and EMS personnel were dispatched to an apartment in The Hamptons located on Rucker Lane in Statesboro. Per the callers, a four-year-old male child at that location had suffered a gunshot wound. Upon arriving officers immediately rendered aid to the child before turning him over to Bulloch EMS for transport to East Georgia Regional Medical Center. Sadly, despite all possible medical assistance, the child passed away at EGRMC. An autopsy at the GBI’s Coastal Crime Lab is pending.

Detectives secured a search warrant for the apartment and conducted multiple interviews with the occupants of the apartment and with family members of the child. While the investigation is still ongoing, the evidence suggests that the child was able to access an unsecured firearm and discharge it, fatally injuring himself. At the conclusion of the investigation, the case file will be turned over to the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit’s District Attorney’s Office for review.
