The City of Summerville has named Adam Wilson as the new Recreation Director, succeeding longtime Parks and Recreation Director Bo Chamlee. A Walker County native, Wilson brings a wealth of experience and a fresh vision for enhancing community engagement through recreation programs and facilities.
Wilson’s passion for recreation began in LaFayette, where his love for sports was first sparked. While initially pursuing a degree in education, he soon discovered his true calling in recreation and shifted his academic focus. His professional experience includes working with the Atlanta Braves and Catoosa County Parks and Recreation, roles that have honed his skills in community engagement, facility management, and program development.
As the new Recreation Director, Wilson has ambitious plans for Summerville’s Parks and Recreation Department. He aims to create a comprehensive Park Master Plan to guide long-term growth and improvements. “A park master plan is basically a road map that gives department staff, citizens, and elected officials a vision, which outlines long-term goals, funding priorities, and operational planning for programs and facilities,” said Wilson.
Wilson’s vision includes pursuing grant opportunities and SPLOST funding to enhance local facilities. High-priority projects include building a new recreation center, replacing the sports lighting at the ballfields, and updating restrooms at Dowdy Park. Wilson is also focused on increasing community engagement through new programs, events, and a strong presence on social media.
“I’m committed to making recreation more accessible and impactful for all residents of Summerville,” Wilson stated. “Our parks and programs have the power to enrich lives, and I’m excited to work alongside the community to make that vision a reality.”
With his enthusiasm and expertise, Wilson is set to lead the department into a new era, enhancing the quality of life for residents while honoring the legacy of his predecessor
