Chattooga says goodbye to Mr. Owings

Mr. Owings was a beloved teacher at Chattooga High School, where he was the Welding Instructor for 30 years.

With heavy hearts, we announce Jeff Owings’s passing on January 26, 2024. He departed peacefully, surrounded by his devoted family. He was 61.

Visitation to honor Mr. Owings will take place on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, located at 902 Farmersville Road in Summerville.

Following the visitation, the funeral service will commence at 2:00 pm, allowing family, friends, and loved ones to pay their final respects and celebrate Jeff’s life.

Mr. Owings was a beloved teacher at Chattooga High School, where he was the Welding Instructor for 30 years.

MR. JEFF OWINGS, age 61 of Gore Community Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, January 26, 2024 following a brief illness.  He was born in Rome, Georgia May 29, 1962, son of the late Roy and Betty Jean Owings. Jeff retired from Chattooga High School after 30 years of service as a Welding Instructor.  He was Baptist by faith and a life-long member of pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are his Wife and love of his life, Lisa Randall Owings; Son, Sage Owings; Daughter, Haley Brooke (Andrew) Johnson; Granddaughter, Blaire; Brother, Jack (Tammy) Owings; Several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Special Friends.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, January 28th 2024 at 2 p.m. from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Farmersville Road with Rev. Melvin Mosley and Rev. James Baird officiating,

interment in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers will be Billy Abernathy, Jimmy Barron, Britt Evans, Steve Evans, Clint Hunter and Benji Price.  Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.  The family request in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Pleasant Grove Cemetery Fund in Jeff’s honor.  Donations may be sent c/o Pam Hammonds 204 Congress Street Summerville, Georgia 30747
