Recently, the Chattooga High School SkillsUSA Welding Fabrication Team was recognized for being 2nd in the nation.
The team consists of William Elrod, Marrion Mosteller, and Gavin Jarrett.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. They help each student excel, not only in their trade, but also in other areas like teamwork.
A non-profit national education association, SkillsUSA serves middle-school, high-school and college/post-secondary students preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service (including health) occupations.
For this year’s competition, the team had to create a “dip tank” which could be used to stain the long rail of bunk beds. This project was for a non-profit organization, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, which refurbishes bunk beds for underprivileged children. William Elrod said “I felt honored and grateful to be apart of the team. It truly was an amazing feeling to be making history.”
