
Authorities are investigating a tragic motor vehicle accident that occurred early Thursday morning in Chattooga County, resulting in the death of a resident. Georgia State Patrol Post 38 responded to the scene of the crash, which involved two pickup trucks and led to the arrest of one driver.
The preliminary details of the investigation are as follows:
On 04/17/2025 at 6:00 am, Post 38 Troopers were notified of a motor vehicle crash on Georgia 48 at Indian Drive. Upon arrival, Troopers were notified that the crash involved two pick-up trucks and one of the drivers involved had already been transported to Atrium Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia. The initial investigation determined that a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado traveling west had crossed the center line and struck a 1999 GMC Sierra truck head-on, causing both trucks to travel off the south shoulder. While conducting the initial investigation, Troopers were notified that the driver of the GMC had succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team ( SCRT-A) was notified and responded to the scene. The deceased driver was identified as David J. Gill, age 51, of Menlo, Georgia. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, David Arnold, age 47, of Trion, Georgia, was arrested at the scene and charged with Homicide by Vehicle, 2nd Degree, and Failure to Maintain a Single Lane.
