Obituary: Mr. Bill Ramsey

Mr. William David “Bill” Ramsey, age 79, of Summerville, GA, died Sunday, July 5, 2020, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Ramsey was born May 24, 1941, in Chattooga County, GA, son of the late David R. and Annie Irene Taylor Ramsey. He was a member of Lyerly First Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, owned and operated Bill Ramsey, Inc. He was a licensed contractor in Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. Mr. Ramsey was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served as a 3rd Class Gunner’s Mate. He was also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, the Shriners, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Pollard.

Survivors include his wife, Naomi Faye Elsberry Ramsey; sons, Jeff (Kasey) Ramsey and William Holland Ramsey; a daughter, Chrysan (Lanny) Thomas; 6 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held at Lyerly Cemetery with Rev. James Baird officiating. Active pallbearers will be Chaz Thomas, Ramsey Thomas, Christian Thomas, Isaac Thomas, Austin Ramsey, and Kerrigan Ramsey. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Ragland, Tony Evett, Dickie Jennings, Bobby Lee Cook, Leroy Sweatman, Bill Gilliland, Joseph Jarreau, Fuzz Floyd, Jon Payne, and Bill Elsberry.

Visitation will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation (960 Highland Ave. – Summerville, GA) or to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
