Summerville Railroad Days ContinueThis Weekend with Community Fall Festival and Sunday Dinner At The Depot

Community Fall Festival – October 26                                                                                     

Menlo, Lyerly, and Leroy Massey Elementary Schools will join forces with Summerville Main Street and others to present aCommunity Fall Festival. The festival will be held from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Dowdy Park. Try your hand at the old fashioned cake walk, jump in inflatables, face painting, games, great food, festivities and more!

Over 23 games will be available for unlimited play. Although this is a free community event, wristbands will be required to play school sponsored games. Wristbands are currently beingsold in advance at Menlo, Lyerly, and Leroy Massey schools for $8 each through Friday. Wristbands will be sold Saturday on sight for $10 to play unlimited games for prizes, jump in inflatables, and lots of fun. Announcement of School Kings and Queens will be held at 12:00 Noon. Participate in the Cake Walk for $1 per turn for Homemade Baked Goods, Bid on Silent Auction Items, Get Hair Painting & Face Painting for $1 & $2,or purchase BBQ, Hamburgers, Funnel Cakes, Nachos, Chili, Hotdogs, Ribbon Fries, and more from the school concessions booths! T&T Sweet Treats will be on hand selling popcorn & shaved Icees!!! The Summerville First Baptist Church will also offer free games in the park. Craft vendors will also be on site in the depot and at the park.

 

 Train fans will not want to miss the arrival of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Passenger Train at 1:00 p.m. Following the arrival, spectators will view the Summerville Turntable in action turning the majestic steam engines.

In the event of inclement weather regular vendors will be located inside of the Summerville Depot and the schools will present the Community Fall Festival on November 7 from 4-6 p.m.

Old Fashioned Sunday Dinner At The Depot – October 27

Old Fashioned Sunday Dinner At The Depot offers the opportunity to step back in time to a slower pace of life and enjoy a Sunday lunch in the Historic Summerville Depot Freight Room. Hours for the Old Fashioned Sunday Dinner are 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Admission is free. Live Bluegrass and Gospel Music will be performed throughout the event. Indoor seating will be available on a first come-first serve basis.  The meal will be served by Sweet P’s At The Tavern at the cost of $8.00 for a meat and 2 vegetables, or $6.00 for a 4 vegetable plate. Sunday’s menu will include roast beef, fried chicken tenders, pinto beans, turnip greens, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, and baked loaded sweet potato. For dessert peanut butter hot fudge cake and apple cobbler will be offered. Drink choices will include sweet and un sweet tea, and coffee.  

 Train fans will not want to miss the Double Steam Engine arrival of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Passenger Train at 1:00 p.m. Following the arrival, spectators will view the Summerville Turntable in action turning the majestic steam engines.

Community Fall Festival and Old Fashioned Sunday Dinner are part of the “Steam Into Summerville Railroad Days” celebration, held in honor of the fall arrivals of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Passenger Trains. Weekly train arrivals during October – mid November are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Summerville Turntable can be observed in action during each arrival. November festivities will include The Summerville Renaissance Festival, Sunday Dinner, and Trains & Tracks Expo.
