Despite these challenges, TJ’s spirit remains unbroken. He has been undergoing intensive therapy for the past 16 months, including a recent breakthrough with robotics therapy using a Bioness L300 device. This device has shown promising results in improving his mobility and daily functioning, though insurance does not cover it.

TJ’s band director, Gene Greer, has been a steadfast supporter throughout his recovery. Greer recalls, “TJ was an outstanding 6th-grade clarinet player before the stroke. I encouraged him to continue in the band, hoping that by using his right hand, he might one day regain its full use. This expectation will follow him as long as he’s with me.”

“As you know well know, marching band is difficult enough without impediments, but TJ doesn’t let anything keep him from participating fully other than an occasional doctor visit, or physical therapy session. In fact, he’s in this year’s show and can be seen up front at various stages. We’re still working, together, on having full use of the side that has been affected. A brace would go a long way in helping us realize our goal,” Greer added.

To further support TJ’s recovery, his family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help fund the Bioness L300. The device is crucial for improving TJ’s quality of life and aiding his journey towards independence. Donations will directly support his access to this life-changing technology.

Please consider contributing to TJ’s GoFundMe campaign. Your support will make a significant difference in his recovery, helping him to stand strong once again. No matter how small, every contribution brings TJ closer to reclaiming his independence and reaching his goals.

TJ’s Fight for Recovery: A Call for Support
On April 23, 2023, life changed in an instant for TJ and his family. A stroke, caused by an undetected tumor in his heart, left TJ paralyzed on his right side and struggling with significant brain damage. At just 12 years old, he was suddenly unable to walk, talk, or eat—basic functions that most of us take for granted.
Three days later, on April 26, TJ underwent life-saving bypass surgery to remove the tumor. But while the surgery addressed the immediate threat, TJ’s road to recovery has been long and arduous. Diagnosed with cerebral infarction due to an embolism, right hemiparesis, and muscle weakness, TJ has spent the last 16 months in and out of therapy, fighting every day to regain some of what was lost.
One recent breakthrough in TJ’s journey has been his experience with intensive robotics therapy, where he used a Bioness L300 device. This medical assistance device has shown remarkable results in improving his ability to walk, stand, and carry out everyday activities. Before therapy, TJ could barely balance on his right foot for five seconds. By the end of the two-week session, he could balance for 20 seconds—a significant milestone in his recovery.
Unfortunately, the Bioness L300, which could greatly enhance TJ’s quality of life, is not covered by insurance. As a parent, there’s nothing you wouldn’t do to help your child return to the life they had before such a traumatic event. And this is where we need your help.
We are reaching out to ask for donations to help fund the Bioness L300 for TJ. Your support could make a world of difference in his journey to recovery, giving him a better chance to regain his independence and quality of life.
Please consider donating to help TJ get the life-changing device he needs. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to helping TJ stand strong once again.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
