Northwest Georgia photographer, Chad Bierkamp is getting set for his first ever The Superhero Project! This is the first annual special needs photo session open to all ages on June 10, 2023.
“The special needs community was placed on my heart but I never could figure out why or exactly what it was God wanted me to do,” Bierkamp said. “I knew I needed to do something. Being a photographer since 2016, I felt maybe a photo session for those with special needs was the answer.”
After mentioning the idea to a few of his friends, “The Superhero Project” was born.
This is a way “to provide our heroes with special needs a day they and their families will cherish for a lifetime.”
The free photo sessions quickly booked up and Chad got to work on his vision. The Superhero Project will take place at Dry Valley Baptist Church.
The Vision
“What we didn’t want was just a typical sessions where you get your photo and leave. We wanted this to be memorable and something they will look forward to each and every year,” Bierkamp explained.
From the moment their feet or wheelchair touches the ground, they will be cheered on the entire way to the front door as they go through a line of volunteers welcoming them to their event!
As they enter, they will be welcomed by more volunteers where snacks and different treats will be available to them and their families. Different stations will be set up where they can play or do different crafts. When they’re ready, they will move over to have their portraits taken!
“Our guests are welcome to stay as long as they’d like but the last thing we want them to do before they leave is dip their hand in a paint color of their choice then place that hand on a white board which will be displayed in The Studio throughout the year.”
