Falling in Love with Jesus

Falling in love with Jesus is the most transformative and life-altering experience a person can have. It goes beyond religion; it dives into the heart of a personal relationship with the One who knows us best and loves us most. But how do we fall in love with Jesus? Scripture provides a roadmap for this divine romance, showing us His character, His heart, and the depth of His love for every single one of us.

 

The first step in falling in love with Jesus is understanding His immense love for us. This love is unconditional, sacrificial, and eternal. One of the most well-known scriptures that expresses this love is John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” This verse highlights the foundation of our relationship with Jesus. His love for us was so deep that He willingly gave His life to save us. This truth shouldstir a deep affection in our hearts for Jesus. When we grasp the reality of this sacrificial love, we can’t help but be drawn to Him.  By His actions on the cross, we should have settled within us any questions of His love for us.  Romans 5:8 reinforces this:“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Jesus didn’t wait for us to be perfect or worthy of His love. If He had waited on us to become worthy or perfect, He would have never come to earth.  He loved us at our worst, a love that transcends humanunderstanding.

 

To fall in love with anyone, you must first know them. The same is true with Jesus. Knowing Jesus is not about mere intellectual understanding but an intimate, personal relationship. Jesus Himself invites us into this relationship in Revelation 3:20:“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” This verse paints a picture of closeness, of fellowship. Jesus doesn’t want to be distant; He desires to be in close communion with us, sharing life with us daily. As we open the door of our hearts to Him, His presence becomes a source of joy, comfort, and love.  Jesus does not want you to have religion. He longs to have a relationship with you. Philippians 3:10 echoes this desire to know Jesus intimately: “I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of His resurrection and participation in His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death.” Paul’s heart cry was to know Jesus deeply, even in suffering. This intimate knowledge of Jesus leads to a more profound love for Him as we see and experience His heart for us in every aspect of life.

 

Cultivating a heart of worship is one of our most beautiful expressions of love for Jesus. In worship, we declare our love, adoration, and gratitude to Him for who He is and all He has done. When we worship Jesus, we focus our hearts on His greatness and goodness. This worship shifts our perspective from ourselves to Him, allowing us to fall deeper in love with Him.  Our love for Jesus grows as we recognize the depth of His forgiveness and grace. The more we realize how much we have been forgiven, the more we will love and worship Him.

Falling in love with Jesus is not a one-time event but a lifelong journey of growing deeper in relationship with Him. Through understanding His love, knowing Him intimately, and cultivating a heart of worship, we can experience the fullness of His love and respond with love of our own. 1 John 4:19 reminds us: “We love because He first loved us.” When we fully embrace this truth, we will fall more in love with Jesus than ever before.
