Chattooga High School graduate Chayse Culbert is making waves in the world of animal science, continuing to represent her hometown with pride. A former standout in both the FFA and 4-H programs, Chayse is now a senior at Mississippi State University majoring in Animal and Dairy Science with a concentration in Pre-Veterinary Medicine.
Most recently, she presented her research at the Spring 2025 Undergraduate Research Symposium, showcasing a year-long study on the effects of melatonin supplementation in late-gestation cattle and its impact on calf development. In addition to this project, Chayse has also contributed to research examining melatonin’s influence on bull fertility and behavior.
“My passion for this topic comes from my background in animal science and participation in our county’s Ag programs,” Chayse shared. “Thanks to mentors like Lauren Jarrett, David Yarbrough, and Rebecca Thomas, I gained the confidence and knowledge that brought me to where I am today. Agriculture is vital to our country, and the foundation I received in Chattooga County is helping students like me contribute to its future.”
From barn stalls to research halls, Chayse’s journey is a powerful testament to the impact of strong agricultural education. Her story highlights the lasting value of community programs and the bright future they can help cultivate.
Chattooga County is proud of you, Chayse—we can’t wait to see what you accomplish next!
