A. Resolutions/Recognitions
1. (non-action item) Congratulations to the following District-level Young Georgia

These students’ pieces are now being judged for the Region competition.
2. (non-action item) The Chattooga High School Wrestling Team, coached by Brian
Beasley, has won two Area Championships and two team State Championships. At
the State Duals on January 18th the team defeated 5-time defending state champs,
Social Circle. On February 15th the team also won the Traditional Team State
Championship. The following 10 wrestlers qualified for the State Traditional
Tournamant: Kha’nija Avery, the first ever female qualifier from Chattooga, along
with Griffin Jarrett, Wes Conley, Jason Malone, Mason Sterner, Rowan Burdick,
Jakoby Cottrell, Ty Veatch, Alex Mears and Luis Medina.
Jason Malone placed 5th, Rowan Burdick placed 4th, Jakoby Cottrell and Ty Veatch

both placed 2nd. Mason Sterner won his first state title. Alex Mears and Luis Medina
won their second state titles. Wes Conley won his third state title (2 with Armuchee)
and Griffin Jarrett won his fourth state title, becoming Chattooga’s first ever 4-time
champion! Congratulations to each of these hard-working athletes and their coaching
staff, on a history-making season!
3. (non-action item) This year’s Chattooga High School Boys’ Basketball team,
coached by Jared Groce, finished this season with a record of 24-7. They were the
regular season Region champions for 7-AA. This season saw them qualify for the
State tournament for the 5th straight year. The team defeated Temple and
Thomasville to reach the Elite 8 round for the second time in the last four years and
only the third time in school history. The Indians then defeated Banks County to
reach the Final Four for the first time in school history. The Indians’ run ended
against Therell, who was last year’s state champion and this year’s runner-up. We are
extremely proud of these young men and the entire coaching staff. Congratulations on
a phenomenal season!
4. (non-action item) This year’s Chattooga High School Girls’ Basketball team, coached
by Alvah Beasley, finished this season with a record of 21-7. They were the regular
season Region champions for 7-AA. This season saw them qualify for the State
Tournament for the second straight year. The team defeated Temple in the first round
of the playoffs and reached the Sweet Sixteen for the second straight year. The Lady
Indian’s season came to an end at Early County against last year’s state runner-up
team and this year’s Final Four team. The Lady Indians have improved in four
seasons, fighting their way from last place in the Region to number one in the regular
season. We are very proud of these young ladies and the coaching staff.

5. (non-action item) Chattooga High School had several CTAE students compete in the
State competition for Skills USA last week in Atlanta at the Georgia World Congress
Center.
Under the instruction of Mr. Benji Price, Ty Veatch advanced from Region
competition to State competition in the area of Carpentry. The following group of
students used their electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and masonry skills to also advance
from Region to State, in the area called Teamworks: Brittonie Cordle, Brody Mobbs,
Caden Smith, Landon Stephens and Jared Trammell.
Under the instruction of Mr. Jeff Owings, the Welding Fabrication Team, consisting
of William Elrod, Gavin Jarrett, Bayln Stephens, and Rett Rosson advanced from
Region competition to State competition as well. In the area of Individual Welding,
Sage Owings also advanced from Region to State competition.
Under the instruction of Chief Robert Robinson, the following students competed in a
variety of Law Enforcement competitions:

For High Risk Traffic Stop: Gracie Martin, Maddison Rosser, and Preston Wakefield
For Crime Scene Processing: Adam Dawson, Katie Hollingsworth and Chloe Poulos
For Law Enforcement: Douglas Brumit
For Mock Trial: Sarah Hampton and Timothy Hartline

Under the instruction of Mary Beth Housch, Darien Aguilar, William Morris, Patrick
Ragan and Stephen Peppers also competed at the State competition by submitting a
Business and Industry video. Congratulation to all these CTAE students!
6. (non-action item) Chattooga High School HOSA (Health Occupations Students of
America), instructed by Misty McQuese, had 2 State winners at the HOSA State
Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia:
-Addie Bridges placed 1st in Veterinary Science. Addie took a State Qualification test
in January, making top 40 in the state. At the State Competition on March 5th, she
took another test and qualified for the second round on Friday, which is skills-based
testing. She placed first in the state on Saturday.
-Chloe Poulos placed 2nd in Researched Persuasive Writing and Speaking. Chloe wrote
an essay on the topic “Big Pharmaceuticals, Creating More Clients or Cures?” She
submitted her written essay in February and performed her speech in front of a panel
of judges at the State Leadership Conference on March 6th. She placed 2nd out of 50
competitors.
Both of these young ladies will represent Georgia at the HOSA International
Leadership Conference in Houston, Texas in June! Congratulations!
