Chattooga County Schools’ District Reopening Scenarios for 2020-21 School Year will be dependent on the spread of COVID-19 in the community determined by local and state health officials. Social distancing guidelines will be implemented for all according to Superintendent Jared Hosmer.
The path to re-opening Chattooga County Schools this Fall
Virtual learning option
Superintendent Hosmer said there will be an online/virtual learning opportunity for those that do not feel comfortable returning to in person classes. “We are working on the platform/contract for those that chose to learn virtually and we plan to schedule a meeting next week for those families that chose to learn virtually.”
Face masks
Superintendent Hosmer says the school system will offer a face mask to those students/drivers that ride a school bus. “They will not be required on the bus at this point. We do not plan to provide face mask for students/staff at school at this point. We will allow any staff/student to wear self-provided PPE at school.” Hosmer did add that face mask protocol is subject to change at any point.
Transportation
The transportation plan at the present time is to offer each student that rides the bus a mask, hand sanitizer and ride with the windows down for as long as possible. “We will also disinfect the buses between each route. We will encourage parent transportation where possible.”
Sanitization/Cleaning
Hosmer said there would be extra cleaning and a heightened concern for the most commonly touched surfaces. “Mr. Worsham will be in close contact with our custodial vendor to ensure proper cleaning/disinfecting takes place daily.“
