Trion City Schools Superintendent Dr. Phil Williams and the Georgia Department of Education released the final 2019 graduation numbers for the Trion City School District.
Trion High School had a graduation rate of a 97.17%. In 2019 seventy-one Georgia School Districts recorded graduation rates at or above 90 percent. Only twenty-four districts recorded rates at or above 95 percent, placing Trion School District in the top twenty four school districts in the state.
“Our #1 priority and focus at Trion City Schools is for all students to graduate and become successful citizens. It starts in Pre-K and our students, teachers, administrators, and parents work extremely hard for 14 years in order to receive a Trion High School diploma. We are very happy with our 4-year cohort graduation rate of 97.17%, but we will not be satisfied until we reach 100%. At Trion, we require students to gain 28 credits to graduate, which is 5 more than the 23 credits that the State of Georgia requires. We raised the graduation requirement bar in order to better prepare our students for future success, and our staff is excited about our students’ work ethic and commitment to fulfilling the ultimate goal which is to graduate,” Dr. Williams said.
Across the state:
Georgia’s high school graduation rate increased again in 2019, rising to 82 percent – an all-time high since the state began using the adjusted cohort calculation now required by federal law.
Georgia’s graduation rate has increased by 12 percentage points since 2012, with steady increases each year.
“I’m proud today of Georgia’s teachers and students, who are doing the on-the-ground work that leads to increases in our graduation rate and other indicators – including NAEP and Georgia Milestones scores,” State School Superintendent Richard Woods said. “Moving forward, we must continue to focus on offering a relevant education and preparing every child for their future – not a one-size-fits-all system that sends every student in the same direction, but a tailored and personalized pathway based on a student’s academic and career interests and future goals.”
