2016 Trion High School JV Football Update

The junior varsity football schedule is a little different from the previous year. The Bulldogs have a 10-game schedule, which includes several local high schools. The hosting team invites three other schools, and they each play two quarters of football. Typically, each quarter has a 10-minute clock.

The first game was scheduled to be played at LaFayette High School, but was moved to Gordon Lee High on August 22, 2016. The JV Bulldogs defeated the JV Ramblers 7-0 on Bobby Chappell Field. The second game was scheduled to be played at Sam R. McCain Stadium, but was moved to the Little Big Horn in Summerville. The JV Bulldogs tied the JV Trojans from Gordon Lee 7-7 on Buddy Windle Field.

Last Thursday, the JV Bulldogs traveled south to Darlington Drive to play the JV Tigers from the Darlington School in Rome. The coaches and referees decided to play two, 12-minute quarters with the junior varsity squads, and finish with one, eight minute quarter with the freshmen teams. The referees also decided not to keep score. However, #4 Cole Phillips scored the only touchdown in the game for the Bulldogs. The junior varsity game ended with a 7-0 win for the visiting Trion Bulldogs. The Trion fans were very vocal throughout the game, but in the end the offensive linemen did an excellent job blocking in the trenches for #9 Quarterback Lincoln Maddux and the running backs. The Trion defense held the Tigers on every Darlington possession. The biggest stand by the Trion defense was on the opening Darlington drive. The Tigers drove the football all the way to Trion’s one-yard line, but # 40 Jul;ian Smith, #50 Jake Hayes, #76 Rylan Tomlin, #73 Nick McGhee, #22 Branden Johnson, and # 68 Cody Luallen lead the Bulldog defense to a strong stand at the goal line. The Bulldogs denied the Tigers of any scoring opportunities. After Cole Phillips crossed the goal line, #30 Libni Ramirez kicked the extra-point.
