Charge Chain: Indians highlight defensive performance, Adams scores 29 in 80-60 win over Dade

The Chattooga Boys’ Basketball team has been dominating on defense this season, so much so Coach Groce has introduced a new award, the “CHARGE CHAIN”. Chattooga boys’ basketball players who take a charge during a game will get to ‘rock’ the Charge Chain on the bench until they are subbed back into the game. The idea was inspired by the Miami Hurricanes’ defensive Turnover Chain and the Georgia Bulldogs’ Spike Pads. Coach Groce has said since the beginning of the season that the focus of his team this year will be on defense. This is just one incentive being implemented to encourage more effort on the defensive end of the court. The Indians have been forcing an average of 28.5 turnovers per game. When asked about the Charge Chain, Coach Groce said, “there are many great hustle plays that an athlete can make during a game, but a player sacrificing his body by taking a charge is the ultimate display of ‘taking one for the team.’ We wanted to find a way to show appreciation and put an emphasis on taking charges. Basketball is a long season, and we feel that this is a great time to introduce the Charge Chain and add a little excitement for the boys.”
