Gable also emphasized the need to improve finishing off drives and praised several players for their standout performances during the scrimmage.

“We have a veteran staff with a lot of big game experience,” Gable said. “It is a great group of guys, and the players have responded well to their coaching.   I cannot say enough of how appreciative I am of them and all the hard work they have put in.”

“We were pleased overall with the scrimmage,” Gable said of the scrimmage with Sonarville. “Defensively, we played well.  We gave up the early touchdown pass but then held Sonoraville scoreless for the remainder of the half.”

“It’s tough preparing for a team like Sonoraville because they spread you out and throw it all over the place.  We just don’t see a lot of teams like that so Coach Chandler and the defensive coaches did a great job preparing our team the best we could,” Gable said.

“Offensively, we did a lot of good things.  We moved the ball up and down the field from the 20 to the other 20, but we failed to score and finish off drives, so we must improve on that,” Gable acknowledged. “Our offensive line played well. We felt like we were the more physical team running the ball, but as I said earlier, you can’t have drives stall out at the 20-yard line each time.”

Standout Players: first half varsity scrimmage:

Zayden Cook: 80 yards on 12 carries.  He also finished with 7 tackles on defense.

Luke Reece and Luke Busby played well on the OL.

Defensively, Matthew Bryant played well from his safety spot with 4 tackles.

Landon Willingham and Brayden Howard each played well and finished with 3 tackles each.

The Indians have a big game ahead of them this week. “Local rival LaFayette Ramblers come to town Friday night, and they have gotten the best of us in the past few years, so we know we have to be prepared and ready for a very physical game,” Gable said.

It looks like a beautiful Friday night, so plan to come out and support your Indians!
