Santa in Uniform Basketball Tournament: A Gift to the Community

The 2016 Santa in Uniform Basketball Tournament was a huge success. Once again the local law enforcement and firefighter personal volunteered countless hours for a cause that is their year-round mission, to bring Christmas to all the children in Chattooga County. For the last 15 years, the Santa in Uniform organization has hosted baseball and basketball tournaments and a motorcycle ride to help raise money for their mission.

How did Santa in Uniform get it’s name?

What began as a plan to bring Christmas to two unfortunate children, has blossomed into full-fledged Christmas for hundreds of needy families. Early in the program, Summerville Police Chief, Stan Mosley and his right-hand man, Captain Harold Tucker took the concept to a whole new level. When a young girl’s only wish was for a trampoline; Mosley and Tucker joined forcesto make it happen. But it wasn’t enough to open a trampoline in a box so Mosley rounded up a few of Santa’s helpers still in uniform to meet at the girl’s home. At 2 a.m. on Christmas morning, the team put the trampoline together and delivered a Christmas miracle. The girl later sent a letter to Chief Mosley saying, it was like having her very own “Santa in uniform”. And so the organization has been known ever since.

Over 30 games were played over the week long tournament.

This was the biggest tournament yet for Santa in Uniform, with 40 teams in six different age groups according to Summerville Recreation Director Kris Willis.
