Rome High School’s nominees of the state-wide 2021 Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) were announced this week, and ten Wolves will now begin the rigorous process to hopefully attend the residential summer program reserved for the winners.

This year, Rome’s local interviews were held virtually. “We had an interview panel of four instructors and professors from Berry College and Shorter College. They interviewed 25 highly intellectual and motivated students, and I am very excited to announce the 10 nominees that were chosen to move on to the next level,” explained Melody Burse, 11th Grade School Counselor.

Rome High School’s 10 nominees and their areas of nomination are:

  • Hayley Alred (Science/Chemistry)
  • Katelyn Clark (Mathematics)
  • Ava Fortenberry (Communicative Arts)
  • Shriya Garg (Mathematics)
  • Griffin Girard (Science/Chemistry)
  • Annalyn McPherson (Theater)
  • Alanna Meier (Communicative Arts)
  • Catherine Mendes (Theater)
  • Marin O’Neal (Communicative Arts)
  • Margaret Thoem (Visual Arts)

These ten students will now submit their official applications to be chosen as semi-finalists, moving up to the state-level interviews and then, hopefully, becoming finalists who will attend the mid-summer program at Berry College.

“The Georgia Governor’s Honors Programs offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom, and is designed to provide students with academic, cultural and social enrichment that is necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators and leaders,” said Burse.
