TCSG: Scott McMurray Named Deputy Commissioner for Georgia Quick Start

Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) Commissioner Greg Dozier announced his appointment of Scott McMurray as Deputy Commissioner for Georgia Quick Start. McMurray assumes the Deputy Commissioner role after serving as Interim Deputy Commissioner of Georgia Quick Start upon the retirement of Jackie Rohosky in August, 2022.

“Scott has been a tremendous addition to the Quick Start team since joining us in late 2021,” said TCSG Commissioner, Greg Dozier. “When Jackie Rohosky retired last summer, Scott stepped into the leadership role seamlessly and continued to provide world-class training programs for expanding and new businesses in Georgia. He is one of Georgia’s leading experts in economic development and workforce training and I am excited to see what the future holds for Quick Start under his leadership.”

Prior to joining Georgia Quick Start in December 2021 as Assistant Commissioner, McMurray served as Deputy Commissioner of Global Commerce for the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD). As Deputy Commissioner of Global Commerce for GDEcD, McMurray led Georgia’s team that focuses on job creation and investment through locating new and expanding businesses, as well as growing small businesses. The Global Commerce team includes statewide and existing industry project teams, small business, and Georgia’s international representatives in 12 strategic global markets around the world.

“Georgia Quick Start has been named the number one workforce training program in the nation for 13 years straight,” said McMurray. “Businesses continue to relocate to the Peach State, in part, because of the world-class training Quick Start provides to them at no cost. Quick Start built this reputation long before I got here, and I am thrilled to lead such an organization that makes such a lasting impact in Georgia.”

McMurray joined GDEcD in 2005 as a project manager. Prior to joining GDEcD, he held management positions with Warehouse California Corp. and Overseas Operations Export Management in Los Angeles, CA. From 1988 until 1993, McMurray worked as both a public high school English teacher and college instructor in Miyazaki, Japan. From 1993 until 1996, he held a position as an import manager for a retail store chain in southwestern Japan. McMurray serves on the board of directors of the Georgia Foreign Trade Zone and the Japan-America Society of Georgia.

A native of North Andover, Massachusetts, McMurray holds an M.A. in English Literature and a B.A. in Economics from Emory University. He also holds an associate degree in the Japanese Language from Southern Japan International College in Miyazaki, Japan.

McMurray began his role as Deputy Commissioner of  Georgia Quick Start on February 6.
