Ga Motor Carrier Compliance Division Officers Focus on Safe Driving Habits for Commercial Motor Vehicles

Georgia Department of Public Safety

Last week, November 15-17, Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD) Officers with the Georgia Department of Public Safety conducted a port check and distracted driving detail along the I-95/I-16 corridors and the areas near the Port of Savannah. The detail focused on the unsafe operations of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs), inspecting CMVs transporting intermodal containers, and CMVs transporting hazardous materials.

During the detail MCCD Officers issued:

  • 41 Speeding violations
  • Eight Following Too Closely violations
  • 48 Improper Lane Usage violations
  • 20 Cell Phone Usage/Distracted Driving violations

“As Georgia continues to grow, so does the number of vehicles on the roadway,” said Major Wayne Mobley, MCCD Commanding Officer. “I encourage all drivers, CMV as well as passenger vehicles, to stay focused and not drive distracted in order to keep Georgia’s roadways safe!”

Additionally, MCCD Officers conducted 461 inspections, of which 82 were hazmat inspections, placing 34 CMVs and 36 drivers out of service.  This detail is one of many conducted throughout the year to ensure safer driving habits of commercial motor vehicle operators.
