New Warden at Autry State Prison

Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Curtis Carter, Deputy Warden of Security at Burruss Correctional Training Center (CTC) to Warden at Autry State Prison (SP), effective February 1, 2024. Carter will oversee the ongoing security and infrastructure upgrades to the facility, and once back online, he will be responsible for overseeing staff members and 1696 medium security male offenders at Autry SP.

“Carter has been an exceptional leader and dedicated staff member since beginning his career 28 years ago,” said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. “We look forward to his continued commitment to uphold the GDC mission as he takes on his new role as Warden at Autry SP.”

Carter began his career with the GDC in 1996 as a Correctional Officer at Lee State Prison (SP. During his tenure at Lee, he was promoted to CERT team and K9 Unit as a Sergeant. In 2008, he transferred to the Special Management Unit CERT team. In 2010, he transferred to Georgia Diagnostic Classification Prison, where he rose through the ranks of Lieutenant, Captain, and Major. In 2019, he was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at BCTC where he currently serves.

Carter received his Associate of Arts degree from Seward County Community College. His departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, CERT Basic, Hostage Negotiation Training, Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training, Supervision I, II, and III, Management I, II, and III, Professional Management Program through Columbus State University, Deputy Warden’s Academy, and Warden’s Pre-Command.
