April is Financial Literacy Month in Georgia

Take advantage of the educational resources available through the Office of the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division.

In honor of Financial Literacy Month in Georgia, Attorney General Chris Carr is encouraging Georgians to take advantage of the educational resources available through the Office of the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division.

“Understanding how to manage money, reach financial goals and save for emergencies helps people have greater ease and success in their lives,” says Attorney General Carr. “Georgians can visit our Consumer Protection Division’s websites for guidance on how to navigate major purchases, avoid scams and protect yourself against identity theft.”

The Consumer Protection Division developed ConsumerEd.georgia.gov to help Georgians become savvy consumers. It contains tools and information on creating a budget, improving your credit, managing debt, buying a vehicle, purchasing a home, and protecting yourself from identity theft. The site also features a bi-weekly blog entitled “Ask Consumer Ed,” which answers consumer questions on a wide variety of topics.

In addition, the Consumer Protection Division created The Georgia Consumer Protection Guide for Older Adults, a comprehensive resource to help protect seniors from becoming victims of fraud and scams and navigate the difficult and unique challenges that come with aging. Available in English and Spanish, it offers information about scams, identity theft, credit and debt, reverse mortgages, charitable giving, home repairs, funerals, advance directives, long-term care, elder abuse and more. You can download the guide at consumer.ga.gov or request a hard copy by calling the Consumer Protection Division at (404) 651-6800.

April is also Military Saves Month.  Resources for our service members and veterans can be found at consumer.ga.gov/military and from our partners at militarysaves.org.
