You probably didn’t feel it, but you may have heard about it by now.
A small earthquake rattled part of Georgia Sunday evening.
The US Geological Survey reports an earthquake shook the ground in Hart County around 11 p.m. Sunday night near Lake Hartwell, along the Georgia-South Carolina state line. Experts now say it was a 2.3 magnitude quake
According to Georgia Tech’s School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, 15 percent of the world’s earthquakes are scattered over areas like Georgia that lack clearly defined active faults. This means areas like north Georgia and along the South Carolina border sometimes experience small quakes.
11Alive reports: “Although parts of north Georgia felt the tremors from an earthquake in Tennessee last year, the last recorded earthquake in Georgia happened in LaFayette, Georgia in April 2016 and registered as a 2.4 magnitude, according to the USGS.”
